THIS PAGE IS DEVOTED TO COMMENTARY ABOUT LOCAL POLITICS IN MISSOURI.

ST CHARLES COUNTY.......February 21, 2009

The Republican Party organization in St Charles County, MO is supposed to be the bedrock organization of the Party in the county. Yet, they have stood silently by, taking no action and putting forth little comment while the "so called" Republican Mayor of St Peters, Len Pagano, supported Democrat Jay Nixon for Governor against the Republican Party’s duly selected candidate, Kenny Hulshof. The election is over and done with and so that's water over the dam. However, Pagano's action in supporting Democrat Jay Nixon should bring at least SOME action from the Republican Central Committee.

What the Committee should do is pass a resolution in session that tells every Republican voter in St Peters that Pagano violated the Missouri State Republican Party's By-Laws, Article II, sec. 2 (b.): “To foster loyalty to the Republican Party and to promote its principles and candidates in all elections.” The resolution should request that Republican voters should not support Pagano in any future election. It should then petition the State Party to follow through by taking similar action.

Some people do not seem to understand that there is an obligation to support the designated Party candidate in a General election. No such obligation exists in a primary election but some zealots in the Party have engaged in activities that tend to confuse people on that score. There should be no such confusion in the case of a general election and those who violate the rules there should be denied support. To do otherwise proves to voters that the Party is an emotionally driven, confused, leaderless and toothless organization that cannot even enforce its own bylaws. Under such circumstances it becomes a laughingstock!
